Over time, muck and grime accumulate on every house, but often, it’s either difficult to reach or too tough to take off with an ordinary sponge, or wipe. (Nor should you use such things on a house’s exterior anyway!)

This is where you need to call in your pressure washer.

But there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure that you get the job done safely and successfully.

3 tips for pressure washing your house siding

cover your plants

There’s a good chance that your house siding sits above shrubbery, flowers, or other decorative plants—which, you’ll probably agree, you do not want to harm. Cover your plants in advance with some tarp, or plastic drop cloth. This will protect them against the pressure washer, and any grime or chemicals that may fall.

utilize detergent

Speaking of chemicals, you may want to add some detergent into the mix when it comes to your siding. This will ensure a more thorough cleaning. If you do, apply the detergent at low pressure, and start from the bottom up. This way, you can let the solution stand for a little while, which lets it leak into the mold you’re trying to get rid of.

bleach may be necessary

Have you noticed that some mildew just won’t go away? We’ll let you in on a little secret: you’re going to need bleach for that. If you do plan on using bleach, wipe it on gently in advance, before using the pressure washer to apply clean water. That way, it seeps in a little—and the mildew will be gone in no time.

With these tips in mind and a pressure washer in hand, you’re finally ready to take on your house siding. If you have any questions, call on the experts at NorTex Sales & Service! We’re your one-stop shop for all of your pressure washing parts, accessories, service and repair.
